Get command
Use this action to send a generic HTTP command to your Denon AVR receiver. Denon AVR receivers support a simple text-based network interface, so you can reach features that do not have their own control in Home Assistant. You can also send IR remote codes through this same interface.
A list of network commands supported by the various Denon AVR receivers can be found here. A list of IR codes can be found here.
Using this action from the user interface
If you prefer building automations and scripts visually, Home Assistant walks you through this action step by step. You pick what to target, tweak a few options, and save. No YAML knowledge required.
To send a command from an automation or a script:
- Go to Settings > Automations & scenes.
- Open an existing automation or script, or select Create automation > Create new automation.
- If you’re setting up a new automation, add a trigger in the When section. Scripts don’t need a trigger. They run when something else calls them.
- In the Then do section, select Add action.
- Select what you want to control. Under By target (see Targets), select the Denon AVR media players you want to send the command to.
- From the actions shown for that target, select Get command.
- Fill in the options you want to use.
- Select Save.

Using this action in YAML
If you work directly in YAML, or you want to know exactly what Home Assistant does under the hood, this section has the technical reference. It lists the field names you use in YAML, their types, and which ones are required.
In YAML, refer to this action as denonavr.get_command. A basic example looks like this:
action: denonavr.get_command
target:
entity_id: media_player.marantz
data:
command: "/goform/formiPhoneAppDirect.xml?VSMONI2"
This switches the HDMI output to output 2 (if your receiver supports it). To send an IR code instead, use a command such as /goform/formiPhoneAppDirect.xml?RCKSK0410370, which toggles muting.
Options in YAML
Good to know
- Append the specific command to the path
/goform/formiPhoneAppDirect.xml?. For example,/goform/formiPhoneAppDirect.xml?VSMONI2. - The Denon AVR receiver also supports the standard media player controls, such as
turn_onandvolume_up. Calling themedia_player.turn_onaction is equivalent to calling Get command with the command/goform/formiPhoneAppDirect.xml?PWON.
